Birth of a Brand: Mawarannahr – The Soul of a Nation in Perfume
In 2025, the global perfume industry welcomed a unique newcomer: Mawarannahr, a brand that merges Eastern heritage with European artistry. Its name, derived from the ancient Arabic term meaning “the land beyond the river”, evokes the rich history of Central Asia, once a cradle of civilizations, trade, and culture.
Founded by Boburxon Fazilov and Abdulaziz Midrahimov, the vision behind Mawarannahr was clear: to craft fragrances that are not only elegant and contemporary but also tell the timeless story of their homeland. Having represented global perfume houses in Uzbekistan for more than a decade under the Aroma Parfum brand, the duo sought to answer a simple but powerful question: “Why shouldn’t we have our own fragrance that carries our story to the world?”
This question gave birth to a bold journey. Through years of collaboration with master perfumers in Girona, Spain, and countless travels across Europe, the founders built a collection of ten signature fragrances. Each scent reflects an image rooted in the soul of the region: the golden deserts, the lush valleys of Zarafshan, the eternal city of Marakand (Samarkand), and the spirit of triumph carried by Silk Road caravans.
From the first touch of the glass bottle to the complexity of its notes, every element of Mawarannahr perfumes was crafted with precision. The goal was not just to create fragrances but to immortalize cultural memory in scent. Each perfume captures a chapter of history: the gardens of empresses, the sunrise over silk routes, the victorious spirit of warriors, or the splendor of golden civilizations.
Today, Mawarannahr represents more than a fragrance house. It is a cultural movement, positioning itself as the fragrance brand that tells the untold story of a region with millennia of history. Distributed through Aroma Parfum’s boutiques in Tashkent, Mawarannahr perfumes already attract both local connoisseurs and international visitors seeking something beyond the ordinary.
In an industry saturated with trends, Mawarannahr dares to stand apart. By bringing together the best of Eastern philosophy and Western perfumery craft, it creates scents that are personal, meaningful, and unforgettable. As Fazilov and Midrahimov put it: “Mawarannahr is the soul of a nation, eternalized in fragrance.”
The launch of this brand signals a new era for Central Asia on the global fragrance map. It is not only about perfumes; it is about heritage, identity, and storytelling—captured in a bottle, waiting to be discovered.
East Warmth & Empress Garden: A Journey into Elegance
Among the ten fragrances in the Mawarannahr collection, two stand out as tributes to feminine grace: East Warmth and Empress Garden. Crafted in Girona, Spain, by master perfumers, these scents intertwine the richness of oriental traditions with contemporary artistry, offering women fragrances that embody both power and delicacy.
East Warmth is a celebration of fruit and floral harmony. Opening with juicy notes of passion fruit, peach, pear, raspberry, and blackcurrant, it invites the wearer into a playful yet refined world. At its heart lies lily of the valley, a timeless floral symbol of purity. The fragrance settles into a sensual base of musk, sandalwood, vanilla, patchouli, and heliotrope, creating a comforting warmth reminiscent of eastern evenings. This perfume is designed for women who embrace life with passion, balancing tenderness with strength.
If East Warmth is a celebration of warmth, Empress Garden is a tribute to elegance. With a crisp opening of grapefruit, a heart of jasmine, and a base of musk, iris, and cedar, it embodies the regal grace of historical empresses who once walked the gardens of Central Asia. Minimalist yet sophisticated, Empress Garden speaks to modern women who value subtle luxury and timeless beauty.
Both fragrances reflect the mission of Mawarannahr: to capture history, nature, and cultural identity in scent. Inspired by stories of ancient queens, lush orchards, and the eternal energy of the Silk Road, East Warmth and Empress Garden transform these images into wearable art.
In a world where fragrances often blur into fleeting trends, Mawarannahr reclaims storytelling through scent. For women, these perfumes are not just accessories but expressions of identity—reminders that beauty and history are inseparable. Whether it is the radiant warmth of East Warmth or the dignified elegance of Empress Garden, each bottle carries the promise of making the everyday extraordinary.
Great Marakand & Fararud: Scents of History and Adventure
For centuries, the city of Marakand (Samarkand) stood as a jewel of the Silk Road—a crossroads of trade, culture, and ideas. Mawarannahr captures this legendary spirit in Great Marakand, a fragrance that blends fruit, florals, and woods into a story of adventure and grandeur.
Great Marakand opens with a burst of bergamot, lemon, apple, pineapple, pink pepper, blackcurrant, and peach—notes that symbolize abundance and diversity. Its heart of rose, violet, lilac, and jasmine evokes the gardens of an ancient city, while its base of amber, musk, patchouli, cedar, and sandalwood anchors the fragrance in timeless richness. This scent is bold, adventurous, and enduring—crafted for those who see life as a journey of discovery.
Complementing this is Fararud, an oriental woody fragrance inspired by the landscapes beyond the river Amu Darya. Its opening notes of davana, rum, geranium, and coconut water reflect exoticism and vitality. The heart blossoms with osmanthus, orange flower, jasmine, tuberose, and neroli, evoking sensuality and mystery. The base—sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, amber, and musk—grounds the fragrance in depth and character.
Together, Great Marakand and Fararud speak to the heritage of explorers, merchants, and dreamers who shaped Central Asia. They embody courage and resilience while inviting wearers to immerse themselves in scents that feel both historic and contemporary.
Mawarannahr positions these fragrances as more than perfumes—they are time machines in a bottle. Each spray recalls the bustling bazaars of Samarkand or the vast landscapes of Fararud, reminding us that history is not confined to books; it can be worn, experienced, and lived.
In an age where personal identity is increasingly defined by individuality, Great Marakand and Fararud offer fragrances that are distinctive, bold, and unforgettable. They are scents for modern adventurers who carry the past with them while stepping into the future.
